Inscription Training Guide - Level 1 - 450

Posted by Zyle - November 17th, 2008

Introduction to Inscription

The inscription skill works as follows: Gather your herbs - you need 5 of any one type in order to mill them into pigment.
This will randomly yield between 2 and 4 pigment, with the chance to also create a secondary pigment. The pigment is then used to create ink, which in turn is used along with parchments to make your glyphs and scrolls.

You will want to train next to an inscription trainer, because new glyphs are available very frequently and will be used to level efficiently, so you don’t want to be running back and forth all the time. Therefore you would be best to use an inscription trainer that is close to a mail box, such as the Alliance trainers in Ironforge and Exodar, or for Horde, the Silvermoon trainer. After you hit 300 and need to use a master trainer, Alliance will find him in Honor Hold and Horde in Thrallmar.

Materials

In order to train inscription you will need at least the following materials:
Alabaster x 77 (100 - 195 herbs)
Dusky x 20 (25-50 herbs)
Golden x 120 (150-300 herbs)
Emerald x 140 (175 ? 350 herbs)
Silvery x 70 (140 ? 275 herbs)
Nether x 110 (140-275 herbs)
Azure x 270 (450 herbs)

Training the Inscription Skill from 1-100

Buy a Virtuoso Inking Set
Buy 4 stacks of Light Parchment.
Mill Alabaster herbs until you have Alabaster Pigment x 77.

1-18 - Ivory Ink x 17
Materials: Alabaster Pigment x 17

18-35
- Scroll of Stamina x 17
Materials: Ivory Ink x 17

35-60
- Moonglow Ink x 30
Materials: Alabaster Pigment x 60
If you wish you can keep going with Moonglow Ink until about 90 skill level, as you will need one Moonglow Ink every day for your Minor Inscription Research to discover minor glyphs.

60-87
- Armor Vellum x 27
Materials: Moonglow Ink x 27
Since much of this is yellow, there’s a chance you will need to mill more herbs to make a couple more Moonglow Ink (if you didn’t make extra ink). If you do have extra Moonglow Ink, take this to 90 to avoid Hunter’s Ink and the need for Verdant Pigment.

87-88 - Minor Inscription Research x 1
Materials: Moonglow Ink x 1
This is your daily.

88 - Mill Dusky Herbs until you get at least:
Dusky Pigment x 20
Verdant Pigment x 2
Subtract your current level from 90. That is how many Verdant Pigment you absolutely need.

88-90
- Hunter’s Ink x 2
Materials: Verdant Pigment x 2

90 - Midnight Ink x 10
Materials: Dusky Pigment x 20

Till 450 just make whichever glyph is orange. When it turns yellow, move on to the next orange one. It?s very simple because all the glyphs cost the same amount of materials so you can?t really go wrong! Your first five gains will be used to make the ink required for the rest of the leveling process as follows:

350-355
- Ink of the Frozen Sea x 135
Materials: Azure Pigment x 270

Then proceed as follows:

355-375 - 20 x different Glyphs
Materials: Ink of the Frozen Sea x 20

375-400 - 25 x different Glyphs
Materials: Ink of the Frozen Sea x 50

400-435 - 35 x different Glyphs
Materials: Ink of the Frozen Sea x 70

435-450 - 5 x different Glyphs
Materials: 30 Ink of the Frozen Sea
