First Aid Training Guide

Posted by Kaets - February 20th, 2007

First Aid is a very useful skill, which everybody can and should train. Since it is a secondary profession, it does not count towards the two main professions that any character can learn and there is absolutely no reason not to train it. First Aid is useful in almost every situation, from PvE to PvP and even Raids. In this guide we will look at how you can train from 0 to 375, as well as some other important aspects of the First Aid Profession. If you have any questions and/or comments, please do not hesitate to leave a comment!

Materials

Required Materials:
In order to train First Aid, a fair bit of cloth is required. Please find below a list of the minimal required amount of each of the types of cloth required to train your First Aid skill. It could very well be that you need slightly more if you don’t get a gain every single attempt. If you are trying to get this over with in one go without any resource runs, it can be worth acquiring a bit more of each cloth before you start.

  • Linen Cloth - 150
  • Wool Cloth - 125
  • Silk Cloth - 140
  • Mageweave Cloth - 90
  • Runecloth - 250
  • Netherweave Cloth - 110

Acquiring the Materials:
Please refer to our guide on the best places to acquire cloth to find out what the best places are to acquire the various types of cloth needed for your First Aid training.

Training the First Aid Profession from 0 to 125

  • Learn the Apprentice First Aid skill from a First Aid Trainer.
  • 1 - 40: Make Linen Bandages.
  • Learn Heavy Linen Bandage from a First Aid Trainer.
  • 41 - 50: Make Heavy Linen Bandages.
  • Learn the Journeyman First Aid skill from a First Aid Trainer.
  • 51 - 80: Make Heavy Linen Bandages.
  • Learn Wool Bandage from a First Aid Trainer.
  • Learn Anti-Venom from a First Aid Trainer.
  • 81 - 115: Make Wool Bandages.
  • Learn Heavy Wool Bandage from a First Aid Trainer.
  • 116 - 125: Make Wool Bandages.

Training the First Aid Profession from 126 to 225

To proceed, you first have to buy a book and while you are at it, the two manuals required later. This saves a bit of time in case you leave to do something else in the meantime.

Horde

  • Go to Balai Lok’Wein in Brackenwall Village, Dustwallow Marsh.
  • Buy the Expert First Aid book from Balai Lok’Wein.
  • Buy the Heavy Silk Bandage manual from Balai Lok’Wein.
  • Buy the Mageweave Bandage manual from Balai Lok’Wein.

Alliance

  • Go to Deneb Walker in Stromgarde Keep, Arathi Highlands.
  • Buy the Expert First Aid book from Deneb Walker.
  • Buy the Heavy Silk Bandage manual from Deneb Walker.
  • Buy the Mageweave Bandage manual from Deneb Walker.

Once you have bought the books, proceed as per below:

  • Use the Expert First Aid book.
  • 126 - 150: Make Heavy Wool Bandages.
  • Learn Silk Bandage from a First Aid Trainer.
  • 151 - 180: Make Silk Bandages.
  • Use the Heavy Silk Bandage manual.
  • 181 - 210: Make Heavy Silk Bandages.
  • Use the Mageweave Bandage manual.
  • 211 - 225: Make Mageweave Bandages.

Training the First Aid Profession from 226 to 300

You now have to acquire the Artisan First Aid skill, which is achieved by doing a quest called “Triage“. The Doctor who gives this quest is different for each Faction. It you do not want to come back to the Doctor in question later on, then it is wise to bring your remaining Mageweave and Runecloth. This will allow you to train to 300 right there and then. There is a mailbox at hand at the Doctor’s, so you could mail the Mageweave and Runecloth to yourself for easy access to it if you lack space in your bags.

Horde

  • Go to Doctor Gregory Victor in Hammerfall, Arathi Highlands

Alliance

  • Go to Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen in Theramore, Dustwallow Marsh

The ‘Triage’ Quest

Save patients by using Triage Bandages to tend to their wounds. You must save 15 patients before 6 of them die from their injuries.

Remember the order of triage! Critically Injured Soldiers die the fastest followed by Badly Injured Soldiers. Injured Soldiers take the longest to die and should be saved AFTER your Critically Injured and Badly Injured Soldiers have been triaged.
15 Patients Saved!
Good day, doctor. You will be tested on your ability to triage patients accordingly this afternoon. Should you pass your examination, you will join the prestigious ranks of Horde Trauma.

Now pay attention! The critically injured must be tended to first. After the criticals come the badly injured. The injured should be tended to last. You must save 15 patients to pass this exam. You will fail should 6 of your patients die in triage.

Triage bandages will be supplied.

Good luck, doctor.

This quest can be quite tricky, but with the right preperation and concentration it is fairly easy to succeed. Don’t worry about failing, you can abandon your quest and try again if you need to. You will most likely not succeed the first time, but don’t give up!

The Doctor wants you to triage 15 patients, before 6 die. As soon as the 6th patient died, you will fail the quest. You will be in a room with 6 cots, on which the patients will spawn. The Doctor has given you special triage bandages, which you should add to your action bar and assign a hot key. This is only used during this quest, so replace something that is very easy to press ? you will need it. Use Shift-V to show the status bar of all patients on your screen, this will help you prioritize which patients to heal first. Make sure you pick a position in the room which enables you to reach all cots.
Pay attention to the quest log ? heal critically injured first, then badly injured and then injured patients. Once you started treating a patient, do not cancel and switch to another patient, you will only lose valuable time. Critically injured patients die very quickly, so if they have been spawned a while before you get the chance to start healing them, let them die. It isn?t worth the loss of time when they die halfway you treating them.
Select the next patient before you have finished the current one, that way you only have to press your hotkey as soon as the current patient is finished. This saves you some valuable seconds.
Again, don?t give up ? you will manage after a few tries.

  • 226 - 240: Make Mageweave Bandages.
  • Learn Heavy Mageweave Bandage from the Doctor.
  • 241 - 260: Make Heavy Mageweave Bandages.
  • Learn Runecloth Bandage from the Doctor.
  • 261 - 290: Make Runecloth Bandages.
  • Learn Heavy Runecloth Bandage from the Doctor.
  • 291 - 300: Make Heavy Runecloth Bandages.

Training the First Aid Profession from 301 to 375

To proceed, you first have buy the Master First Aid book, and while you are at it, the Netherweave Bandage and Heavy Netherweave Bandage manuals required later.

Horde

  • Go to Aresella in Falcon Watch
  • Buy the Master First Aid book from Aresella.
  • Buy the Netherweave Bandage manual from Aresella.
  • Buy the Heavy Netherweave Bandage manual from Aresella.

Alliance

  • Go to Burko in the Temple of Telhamut
  • Buy the Master First Aid book from Burko.
  • Buy the Netherweave Bandage manual from Burko.
  • Buy the Heavy Netherweave Bandage manual from Burko.

Once you have bought the books, proceed as per below:

  • Use the Master First Aid book.
  • 301 - 330: Make Heavy Runecloth Bandages.
  • Use the Netherweave Bandage manual.
  • 331 - 360: Make Netherweave Bandages.
  • Use the Heavy Netherweave Bandage manual.
  • 361 - 375: Make Heavy Netherweave Bandages.

Congratulations, you’ve made it to 375!

Very good guide. Followed it and easily made it to 375.
It costs quite a bit of gold but first aid is worth it. I’d say I spent about 150 gold but I AH’ed everything so, it can vary greatly on whether you’re going to buy (and when) the items (since prices fluxuate) or whether you will farm them.

Its a very good guide but just one small thing, you need to be a min Level of 35 to do the “Triage” quest :(

You have to be a minimum of level 35 to train any profession from a cap of 225 to a cap of 300. The Triage quest does exactly that, your cap raises to 300 once you have completed it, and you can therefore not get it before level 35.

Brilliant guide. Thank you for writing it. Just a few things to remember for everyone. Be level 35, Buy all the cloth you need for 226-290 from the doctors and before you start (flying back and forth to the bank/AH is a real pain), watch the AH to see how much you should be paying and stock up on cheap cloth in advance.
    Thanks again,
